Atyrau Refinery LLP announces the start of benzol production. The CCR catalytic reforming unit was converted to a fuel-based operation with benzol production. Two tasks are accomplished with this type of operation: the first is the maximum production of high-octane gasoline and the second is the production of a product with high added value (benzol) together with a simultaneous improvement in the quality of gasoline characteristics. The planned daily production of benzol is 30 - 40 tons (from 1000 - 1200 tons per month).

This amount of recoverable benzol is enough to reduce its percentage in gasoline from 5% to 1% in accordance with the requirements of emission standards K-3/4/5. A further increase in benzol production is possible after the commissioning of the ParamaX unit (PX APC). PX installations are currently in completed, at the same time, the necessary measures were taken to preserve it. Commissioning of PX should be considered when there is no shortage of gasoline in the Republic of Kazakhstan, including the period after the commissioning of the Deep Oil Refining Complex and a significant increase in the production of high-quality motor fuels.
The commissioning of such a unique project in our country as aromatics production complex (APC) at Atyrau Refinery, first of all, accomplishes the task of reducing benzol emissions into the atmosphere, at the same time, the extracted benzol becomes a raw material for organic synthesis.
The most effective technologies were chosen for the construction of aromatics production complex, they were developed by well-known world companies and tested in a number of countries, such as the USA, South Korea, China and the Middle East.
The advantages of the selected technologies include production efficiency, for example, the benzol extraction unit has the capability to produce products with a purity of 99.9%. This indicator complies with international quality standards and will allow products into world markets.
It should be noted that benzol is one of the most common petrochemicals and the most abundant aromatic compound. There are about 30% of aromatic hydrocarbons in the physical weight of plastics, 66% in rubbers, up to 80% in synthetic fibers, aromatic hydrocarbons come from benzol.
