KazMunayGas and Atyrau Refinery held "Open Day" for potential investors on project "Construction of GTPP"

On August 17-18, as part of the order of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov to accelerate the implementation of the project to launch a gas turbine power plant (GTPP), Open Days were held at Atyrau Refinery. Potential investors, representatives of construction and gas supply companies got acquainted with the project and together with the delegations of JSC NC KazMunayGas and Atyrau Refinery LLP discussed priority aspects of cooperation.

The main objectives of the construction of the GTPP are to ensure the reliability of external power supply for new part of the plant, minimize equipment outages and reduce the risks of forced discharges to flare installations during emergency situations. The capacity of GTPP will be 154 MW*h. The commissioning of facility is planned until the end of 2026.

Representatives of Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, JSC "Qazaq Gaz", JSC "Intergas Central Asia", JSC "KazTransGas Aimak", JSC "KEGOS" and potential investors were invited to the event. More than 40 domestic and foreign companies are interested in the GTPP construction project. During its presentation, the guests got acquainted and discussed the scope of upcoming work, basic requirements, parameters of energy resources, and also visited a potential site for future construction. The Q&A session discussed possible technical solutions for the main and auxiliary equipment, the conditions for providing energy resources, the mechanism of return on investment, as well as risks and guarantees of participation in the project.

According to the plan of its implementation, the Investor will carry out works on complex design, construction, financing of the facility. The excess of generated electricity is planned to be released to the needs of the population of the region through a single buyer.

One of the main requirements in the implementation of the GTPP project is the efficient use of water resources and reduction of water consumption. According to the preliminary feasibility study, the initial consumption of fresh water will be 650 m3/h. However, the use of best available technologies (BAT), for example, a dry cooling tower, will help significantly reduce the indicator to 150-200 m3/h. The main source of GTPP water supply will be determined jointly with the Zhaiyk-Caspian Basin Inspection.
